Longcross Ride Out
After last weeks off-roading odyssey I've been trying to get it out of my system and so I suggested that this week we did something a little different. Something with fewer narrow farm lanes, muddy tracks and hopefully accidents.
This week Longcross was the ride out. Its a generally clear route with fewer interruptions with nice seeping bends, isn't to narrow whilst not being a motorway.
I also wanted to test out my new vlogger helmet set up. I've been looking to improve the camera positions, battery life on the GoPro along with the audio. So i came up with with a weird setup that included:
- A smart remote to control my camera so that I don't loose track of where the recording is.
- A power source for the camera so that you don't constantly have to change batteries.
- Improved audio whilst riding.
The solution was to strap a power bank to the back of my helmet to give me what I was told 3-5 hours of battery life. I then bought a new directional mic which would in theory reduce the wind noise interference along with the GoPro smart remote.
After dissecting a roll of gaffer tape and some double sided tape i was ready although I think I looked like some kind of deformed martian invader!
We met at the usual place and set off after a coffee. The road was great albeit a little damp in places so we promptly proceeded to wreak havoc (or at least in our own minds) tearing up the track. We did a few circuits of the area and then headed out towards to some more urban areas. As you can see from the video it was a really great ride and although we did not go very far it absolutely did the job of excising last weeks demons!
That being said i did discover that absolutely none of my vlogging helmet ideas actually worked. The battery only lasted and hour, the mic picked up a lot of wind noise! The only ray of light was the smart remote that worked really well. At least I didn't waste all my money!
